Three Steps That Can Lead to Successful Construction Schedules After COVID

It is hard to imagine a time when COVID will not be on everyone’s mind but the truth is that this will likely come at some point. Either way, construction will eventually return and it is important to make sure that you are ready for that. Follow these three steps when it is time to get back to some semblance of normal. At Fund Control our projects offer advanced features for a variety of real-estate related organizations.

  1. Confirm that Your Data for In-Progress Projects is Accurate
  2. Make sure that you have neither under- nor over-statusted. This can lead to serious confusion and costly disagreements in the future. Make sure that your data is scheduled correctly and that it represents progress as needed. If you need to request time and money for impacts, you want to make sure that all your data is accurate.

  3. Ensure the Schedule is of High Quality
  4. Of course, “high quality” can be subjective. When we use this term at Fund Control, we are referring to the structural integrity of the schedule – not an assessment of the constructability. It is an analysis of best practices re: scheduling. Confirm that each schedule is constructed with best practices at the forefront, and that there are problem-solving solutions in place for impacts and delays. If you do not start with a quality schedule, the team will eventually get guided in the incorrect direction. The impact could be significant and include further delays to projects and difficult dispute resolutions.

  5. Ensure the Schedule is Feasible
  6. This is where trouble often arises – feasibility. It is not enough to ensure that the schedule is high quality if it is not actually applicable to the realities of what is happening. One common issue is when there are serious path delays, yet there are no changes to end dates. This is a serious issue that is in direct contradiction of the critical path method that works so well for so many. You should be updating schedule logic, durations, calendars – etc.
