Has the Future Arrived? The World’s First 3D Printed Zero-Net Energy Homes Have Been Printed

There is no question that technology is moving at warp speed. If anyone in the commercial construction banking industry needed evidence of that, they have it in the recent innovations by the Plari Group. Read on to learn about these 3D-printed homes and what they will mean for homebuilders around the world.

The Project Involved Innovation from Two Companies

Two companies came together to create the first 3D printed zero-net-energy home. Palari Group, which builds 3D-printed sustainable homes and communities, partnered with Mighty Buildings, a construction tech company that works to create affordable, sustainable homes with robotics, automation, and 3D printing. They combined their years of experience and resources to create an innovative product.

The Building Block of the Homes

The main building block of the homes is what’s known as a Might Panel. This 3D-printed panel is made with 100% polymer composite. It has structure, MEP integration, interior and exterior finishes, insulation, and even air, moisture, and fire barriers built right into it. The individual panels are built at the Mighty Buildings facility and then assembled at construction sites.

How Much Faster Can Homes Be Built This Way?

Mighty Buildings claims that with their process and their materials, a home can be manufactured twice as fast as a standard home. However, it will also use 95% fewer labor hours and have ten times less waste compared to the typical construction of a home.

These Homes Are Well-Beyond Basic

When you think of a 3D-printed home, do you think of a basic box with a little personality? That is far from what these homes are. For example, the first model is a mid-century modern home with floor-to-ceiling windows. Each of the properties built as a primary residence of nearly 1,500 square feet, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms.

It then has a secondary residence with two bedrooms and one bath. The lot is 10,000 square feet and features a pool and views of the mountain. While the homes are primarily fueled by solar energy, buyers can choose to add on an optional Tesla Powerwall battery, and electric vehicle chargers are available too.
